Dr. Shaw moved to Vancouver, Canada in June 2003 having been internationally recruited by the Centre for Healthcare Innovation & Improvement (CHII). Her research portfolio is concentrated in three areas: Technology Assisted Practice (Specifically, Electronic Health Records - EMR/EPR/EHM/ etc); people and organizational issues associated with health informatics in general; and the evaluation of the application and use of technology in health. These areas are encompassed within the portfolio of her research group: PATH (Professional Assessment of Technology in Healthcare). She takes a combined theoretical and applied approach to research as exemplified by the UK publication of ‘Going Paperless: A guide to computerisation in primary care’ in 2001. The Canadian edition of this book: ‘Computerization & Going Paperless in Canadian Primary Care’, was published in the summer of 2004.

Nikki is extremely interested in collaborative, multi-disciplinary research & development and would welcome contact from anybody interested in either undertaking post-graduate research or developing shared research interests. Dr. Francis Lau

Francis Lau is a PhD graduate in medical informatics specialized in the design, implementation and evaluation of health information systems. Also has a diverse background in business, computing and medical sciences, with 14 years of professional experience in the IT industry. Teaches design and deployment of health information systems. Research interests include action research, knowledge management/translation, e-learning and collaborative technologies, large-scale health systems research, and cancer and palliative care informatics

Dr. Jafna Cox
MD, FRCPC, FACC, Director of Research, Division of Cardiology
Professor, Departments of Medicine, Community Health and Epidemiology
Dalhousie University, Halifax

Dr. Cox is Director of Research for the Division of Cardiology at Dalhousie University. He is a Professor in the Departments of Medicine and of Community Health and Epidemiology and is a staff cardiologist at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Dr. Cox's research interests relate to cardiovascular health services and outcomes research and he has been involved in large population-based effectiveness studies, disease management programs, preventive cardiology initiatives, and provincial health policy.
