Dr. Anne Holbrook is Director, Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Associate Professor of Medicine, McMaster University and a senior scientist at the Centre for Evaluation of Medicines within the Father Sean O'Sullivan Research Centre, St. Joseph's Healthcare, Hamilton.
Her professional life is a unique combination of direct patient care, educational leadership, and applied research—all focused on evidence-based therapeutics.
- CIHR career investigation award to research decision making of patients, clinicians, and drug policy makers
- $7.3 million research funding to study the impact of electronic medical records in primary care then electronic integrated delivery systems
- Clinical pharmacologist / internal medicine consultant / clinical epidemiologist
- Active medical staff at both Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation - McMaster Campus (MUMC) and St. Joseph's Healthcare (SJH) - runs an internal medicine/clinical pharmacology teaching service with 100 new consults per month
- Member of Drug Quality and Therapeutics Committee - expert committee advising Ontario Ministry of Health on drug benefits. Budget $1.6 billion.
- Chair of two therapeutic guideline initiatives for Ontario - process involving rigorous review and rating of evidence, consensus with experts stakeholder review.
- Chair of Health Canada's Expert Advisiory Committee on Pharmacovigilance - committee monitoring adverse reactions to drugs and vaccines and advising Bureau of Drug Surveillance.
- Past Chair of International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology's Education Committee
- Vice Chair of Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee at SJH - role of evidence-based therapeutics expert, assists hospital departments in assessment of cost-effectiveness of new and old therapies and appropriate monitoring of benefit and harm of therapies reviewed by P&T
- Regular speaker at continuing education events and evidence-based medicine workshops on therapeutics topics
- Member of several national practice guideline development committees
- Supervisor of multiple medical and pharmacy trainees, both undergraduate and postgraduate, for both clinical and research training
- Other research includes interventions to influence prescribing behaviors, meta-analyses of therapies, cost-efficacy and cost-effectiveness of therapies, assessment of patient preferences, evaluation of information requirements for informed drug policy.
